Original Mongolian Yurts

The Perfect Blend of New & Old Ways

What’s included?

Our yurts come as complete set with all parts required for assembling, except the platform. All parts described in A, B, C below are included.

A. Complete wood frame

The wood structure consists of 6 parts:

  • Lattice wall sections: 3-10 sections, depending on size
  • Door(s): 1 door by default, additional door by order
  • Window(s): Most yurts have 2 or more windows
  • Rafters: 30 - 100+ rafters, depending on the size
  • Pillars: 2 pillars for yurts up to 8.8m (29ft), 4 pillars for 11m (36') yurt
  • Skylight: / Crown wheel: 1 piece with transparent acrylic finish. 1/2 is covered with tinted, and 1/2 is covered with clear acyrlic.

Lattice walls are made of Siberian larch or birch trees. Other wood parts are made of pine. All parts are made of kiln-dried wood. Wood parts are 50 -100% thicker than other Mongolian yurts.

Details:

  • Lattice walls:  The lattice walls are the only part of the yurt that is not painted. Therefore, they get mold and mildew without proper treatment.  Treatment with boiled linseed oil is recommended for those in humid climates who are concerned about mold and mildew.
  • Door & Windows: They are the parts most exposed to the elements among the wood parts.  We recommend and use exterior-grade water-based paint on the door and windows. When these paints are used, no motif decoration is possible. But, it will be easier to restore the paint after a few years.  From 2025, we started offering transparent acrylic finish on the door and windows to allow more light.
  • Skylight (a.k.a crown wheel /compression ring):  There are three different names for this part; we generally use the name “Skylight”. This is the part through which rain and snow water can come in. Original Yurts have waterproof Skylights with a full acrylic finish.  Our patent-pending Skylight design allows for ventilation while still being fully waterproof.

B. All soft fabrics

Soft fabrics consist of 5 layers:

  • Layer 1: Inner cover / Moisture barrier
  • Layer 2: Wool felt for the roof and wall
  • Layer 3 :Vent layer
  • Layer 4: Reflective insulation
  • Layer 5: Outer cover for the roof and wall

Yurts made before 2025 had separate inner cover and moisture barrier. The vent layer was introduced in 2024.

Details:

  • Inner cover / Moisture barrier:  This is what you see from inside of the yurt next to the wood frame. The white color provides a nice background for the colored wood frame. It is made of fabric that does not allow moisture created inside the yurt to penetrate into the felt.
  • Wool Felt Layer: Nothing beats wool for insulation in yurts. They are heavy to install because they are thick. Besides insulating from heat/cold, wool felt dampens the noise (of rain falling on the roof).
  • Vent layer: Wool felt insulation function best when dry. The purpose of the vent layer is to provide a breathing air gap between the wool felt and layers over the felt (Read more about it here).
  • Reflective insulation: It reflects the heat from the sun back to the outside or heat from the heater back to the inside.
  • PVC cover: This waterproof and durable material keeps the yurt dry and provides protection to all the other layers beneath it.

C. Accessories

Accessories include:

  • Chimney flashing
  • Chimney holder
  • Skylight curtain
  • Skylight opener
  • Mosquito screen (from 2025)
  • Belts & straps

All required locks, handles, buckles are included.

If you do not need the section for the chimney flashing, a replacement acrylic cut to fit the section is included.

There are several extras of rafters and accessories in case you need to replace.

Details:

  • Chimney flashing:  Flashing allows the chimney to go through the skylight in a waterproof way. It is made of flexible EPDM  material ( a synthetic rubber that can withstand extreme temperatures) and can be cut to different sizes to fit chimneys of various diameters.
  • Chimney holder: Designed to hold the chimney still in the wind. It can be adjusted to fit chimneys of various diameters.
  • Skylight curtain: It can be used to block the sunlight. It is made of the same material as the outer cover for UB resistance. It can be pulled halfway or entirely. You can also remove it if you want more sunlight.
  • Skylihhy opener: Used to open section(s) of the skylight for ventilation without using a ladder.
  • Mosquito screen: Can be used for windows. Available only for yurts made in 2025 or later.
  • Belts and straps: 2 inner belts to adjust the wall tension, multiple straps to hold the felt and vent layers,  and three outer belts (when applicable).
